We're on Facebook! (26July 2010) The Society now has a page on Facebook. Social networking sites like this are increasingly becoming a large part of peoples' lives, and we hope that our presence on the largest of them will spread the word about dowsing to a wider audience and help to gain us new members. If you're already a Facebook member, you may find this a more convenient way to keep up to date with what's happening at the BSD. If you're not a Facebook member, you will need to first join it in order to see the page. Notices - We've Moved! (Updated August 7th 2009) The Society moved its office to Malvern at the end of 2003. It was a brave step and the first time we had a ‘high street presence'. However, within a year it became obvious that we were cramped for space, so were unable to develop the reference library/archive. The presence of visitors in the shop, although welcome, made telephone conversations and workflow difficult. Five part time members of staff sharing four desks make for fun and games! Despite eye-catching window displays, additional income and new members did not justify the cost of renting a shop type property. Council has actively pursued a sensible cost cutting agenda, particularly in the last 12 months. We have now moved to new offices in a converted farmyard setting in the village of Hanley Swan, just a couple of miles from Malvern. We have a much more useable pair of rooms at a lower cost, with the opportunity to rent further room when the good times return, plus the possibility of running workshops there in due course. Additionally there is plenty of free car parking space, it is a level
site (no more dangerous loading of vehicles on a steep slope) and there
is wheelchair friendly access. The British Society of Dowsers
We're just along from the duck pond in Hanley Swan, and look forward to seeing you soon. Telephone/email/website all remain as before. Professional Register now online - July 21 2009 The Professional Register of Dowsers is now listed on our web site. Are you lonesome tonight? Forming an Affiliated Local Group, by Director, John Moss Wwe have an increasing number of enquiries from members and non members who are seeking local contact with other dowsers. Sadly we have often had to tell enquirers that there is no local group in their area. For a listing of the current BSD affiliated local dowsing groups please click here. Read on to find out where new groups are being established. My first experience of dowsing came in 1997 when I caught sight of an advertisement in my local Parish magazine. A dowser was trying to start a group. At the time I was interested in finding a new hobby to provide a diversion from a stressful and unfulfilling job. It is a strange thought that attending my first meeting and feeling the rods move has led to the Director's chair at BSD! A short while after the group had been running we made contact with BSD and soon became an Affiliated Group, one of almost 30 that we now have in the UK. Membership of a Local Group provides an invaluable source of help and support for dowsers So what does an Affiliated Group mean? At the present time, it means that the Group has the option of adopting our model constitution which provides a useful framework for actually running the group and provides access to our Group Third Party Insurance Policy. Additionally, amongst other benefits, the Group will be able to take advantage of our special offer for website facilities, an essential tool which is very useful in attracting new members. We also ask for confirmation that the group agrees with the Objects of the Society and that members abide by our Code of Ethics. At the Office we are keen to help and encourage the Groups as much as possible and Council Members regularly visit. We offer a discount on bulk packages ofequipment. If you are a solitary dowser who would welcome local contact or if you
would like to help form a Group, please either contact us or one of the
following members, if there is one in your area. It should be stressed
that by agreeing to list their names it should not be assumed that they
will actually run the new Group. They will simply be acting as a focal
point at this stage. Bart O'Farrell, West Cornwall Dowsers now meeting in the Penzance/Redruth
